Non-Traditional Programs and Certificates at Washington’s Community and Technical Colleges

The following charts crosswalk non-traditional programs and certificates offered at community and technical colleges with the OSPI career pathways (programs of study).  The training listed is broadly grouped by industries a student and his or her family can recognize.

“W” means the industry is non-traditional for women and training is available at a specific college

“M” means the industry is non-traditional for men and training is available at a specific college

“MW” means there are occupations in the industry that are non-traditional for both genders. These are typically large industries, and occupation details are further explained at the bottom of the chart.

Details

The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) oversees K-12 education in Washington.  Its Career and Technical Education department  organizes secondary-level occupational training in pathways that lead to high-demand, rewarding careers in Washington State:

  • Agriculture and Science
  • Business and Marketing
  • Health and Human Services
  • Industry and Technology

Each career pathway offers non-traditional career options for young women and men.  A career is considered “non-traditional” if 25% or less of the workers in that field are a specific gender. Tech Prep students can pursue non-traditional career education through Washington’s community and technical colleges, and earn dual (high school and college) credit at the same time.
