Articulation
Developing an articulation agreement is not as hard as it sounds – in fact, many teachers report the process invigorates their lessons, improves their access to industry information, and introduces them to peers at community and technical colleges. New WA State Guidelines for HS Articulation requests.
Step-by-step articulation:
- Teachers contact their local Tech Prep Director to discuss options for articulation in their consortium. To learn more about the process for requesting an articulation, please review the Articulation Guidelines used by all consortia statewide.
- The Tech Prep Director convenes or helps to facilitate meetings with the high school career technical education program instructors and faculty of matching college programs.
- Secondary
and post-secondary instructors review each other’s program standards and
competencies, and align curriculum. Even assignments,
labs and other skill activities are discussed to ensure students meet
or exceed the requirements for the college.

- Once the program review is complete, the high school and college programs enter into an articulation agreement, which describes how courses are sequenced and provisions for granting credit to participating students.
